How does Kalzyme Dental Spray work?
Step 1: Breaking down dental plaque
Through hydrolysis, the enzymes breaks the bonds of the dental plaque, mimicking the mechanical action of toothbrushing to scrape away the plaque. Harmful bacteria attached to the plaque gets dispersed and are no longer protected by dental plaque.
Step 2: Reduction in bacteria & creating a protective layer
When used daily, the enzymes continuously break down the dental plaque, while the other ingredients work to heal the damaged gums, creating a protective layer to prevent buildup of dental plaque.
Step 3: Balancing the oral microbiome
As Kalzyme does not destroy bacteria, the good bacteria in our pet's mouth survive and are able to repopulate, which rebalances the oral microbiome.
Does Kalzyme Dental Spray remove plaque and tartar?
Yes, Kalzyme Dental Spray specifically targets the breakdown of bacterial biofilm (plaque).
In addition, case studies and customer trials have also seen the softening of tartar, making them easier to remove, and preventing new tartar buildup through reducing plaque formation.
Why Kalzyme Dental Spray?
Kalzyme Dental Spray is non-antibacterial and uses a unique enzyme technology that targets the bacterial biofilm (plaque), unlike majority of the antibacterial dental solutions that target the destruction of all bacteria.
This gives Kalzyme 2 unique advantages.
Advantage 1
As Kalzyme directly reduces plaque, harmful bacteria will no longer be protected within the plaque and are more succeptible to your pet's immune response. Antibacterial dental solutions with no activity against the biofilm may not be able to get rid of the bacteria attached to the plaque as they can be 10-1000 times more resistant.
Furthermore, many antibacterial dental solutions may not be able to remove any existing plaque unless paired with toothbrushing, which provides the opportunity for the plaque to mineralise into tartar. This makes it easier for harmful bacteria to attach themselves to the teeth, colonise and form more plaque.
Advantage 2
Majority of antibacterial dental products are not able to target harmful bacteria specifically. This results in the beneficial bacteria being destroyed as well, preventing the oral microbiome from achieving balance. By only actively targeting the bacterial biofilm (plaque), Kalzyme preserves the beneficial bacteria and they are given the chance to flourish.
Bonus
Kalzyme comes in an easy-to-use spray format!
What makes Kalzyme different from other enzyme based dental products for pets?
Enzymes are proteins that help speed up a chemical reaction. However, they are not all the same and they catalyse different reactions.
Some enzymes used by antibacterial dental products speed up the reaction called oxidation, where oxygen is used to break down bacteria cell walls and cause bacteria death.
Enzymes used by Kalzyme fall under a group called hydrolase, where water is used to break down the bonds that form bacterial biofilm (plaque). However, not all hydrolase are the same as some catalyse the hydrolysis of bacteria cell walls, causing bacteria death.
Does Kalzyme Dental Spray come in a trial size?
Unfortunately a trial size is not available at the moment.
It is also recommended to use Kalzyme Dental Spray for at least 1 month for visible effects.
Does Kalzyme have a bigger sized bottle?
Unfortuantely Kalzyme Dental Spray is only available in one size at the moment.
Does Kalzyme Dental come in a gel format?
Unfortunately Kalzyme Dental only comes in a spray format as most pet owners find it difficult to apply gels and toothpastes into their pet's mouth.
A spray is the easiest way to get the solution to the right areas with the least effort and time spent.
How long can 1 bottle of Kalzyme Dental Spray last?
Each bottle of Kalzyme Dental Spray is able to last up to 44 days, if you are using it twice daily, one spray to each side of the mouth, for a total of four sprays daily.
Each spray contains approximately 0.17ml of solution.
Usage
How do I use Kalzyme Dental Spray?
- Carefully tilt your pet's head to one side and gently lift the upper lip
- Spray directly on the gumline. Spray once for cats and small breed dogs. Spray twice for medium and large breed dogs.
- Repeat on the other side of the mouth
Small dogs (<10 kg) and cats: 1 - 2 sprays per application
Medium-sized dogs (10 - 25 kg): 2 sprays per application
Large dogs (>25 kg): 2 - 3 sprays per application
Do I have to use Kalzyme Dental Spray daily after my pet's oral health has improved?
We would highly recommend that your pet continue using Kalzyme Dental Spray daily even after their dental health has improved. This is because plaque formation and harmful bacteria colonisation happens as quickly as a few hours after your pet's meal.
Kalzyme creates a protective layer that prevents harmful bacteria from attaching themselves on to the teeth and gums. This helps prevents plaque formation and keeps your pet's teeth and gums healthy.
Can I use Kalzyme Dental Spray if my pet has bad breath?
Yes you can! Kalzyme reduces the harmful bacteria that causes bad breath (Halitosis), and the first sign of improvement of your pet's dental health is usually a reduction in bad breath.
Do I still need to brush my pet's teeth after I start using Kalzyme Dental Spray?
Kalzyme was developed to replace daily brushing. However, if you are able to brush your pet's teeth while using Kalzyme on an alternate basis, it will help to reduce any existing built up plaque and tartar more effectively.
Do I use Kalzyme Dental Spray before or after meals?
It is recommended to keep any food and water out of reach from your pets for at least 30 minutes after using the Kalzyme Dental Spray. This is to ensure that the Kalzyme solution effectively covers the oral surfaces and is not washed away by any food or water.
Alternatively, Kalzyme Dental Spray can also be used after meals and consumption of water.
Must I spray at a certain targeted area? Must I spray every tooth?
It is recommended to spray the Kalzyme solution along the upper gum line and let your pet spread the Kalzyme solution acround their mouth with their tongue.
If you pet has a particular area that has more tartar buildup, you can add an extra spray for that area to ensure maximum coverage.
How long does it take to remove plaque and tartar?
The time it takes for your pet to see results may vary based on their current dental condition.
Pet owners see the largest change approximately 1 month into using Kalzyme, and the time taken reduces when owners combine toothbrushing with daily use of Kalzyme Dental Spray.

This gives Kalzyme 2 unique advantages.
Advantage 1
As Kalzyme reduces the biofilm, harmful bacteria and fungus will no longer be protected by the biofilm and are more succeptible to your pet's immune response. On the other hand, antibacterial or some antifungal solutions may not be able to get rid of the harmful bacteria and fungus attached to the biofilm as they are much more resistant.

Can Kalzyme work on bald spots for my pet?
Before starting on any products to treat a bald spot on your pets, it is important to first determine the potential root cause of your pet's bald spot.
Dogs
A few common causes of bald spots include pressure sores, fungal infection such as ringworm, bacterial infection, or parasites. However, bald spots can also be due to allergies (food or environmental) or other systemic diseases such as Cushing's disease.
Cats
Similarly, cats are also susceptible to fungal infections, bacterial infections, parasites, allergies and other systemic diseases.
However, overgrooming may also cause a bald spot. This may be due to additional stress and anxiety brought on by changes in their environment or a development of an underlying systemic disease.
Please consult your veterinarian for advice concerning you cat or dog’s specific condition.
